WANGANUI-BASED American artist Brit Bunkley new installation at
the Film Archive in Wellington's Mediagallery Following Gravity's Rainbow is
inspired by the novel Gravity's Rainbow by the famously reclusive Thomas
Pynchon. The term has come to mean the arc of a ground-to-ground missile
trajectory. Bunkley's work includes a vertically projected video that weaves 3D
animation, text and moving images that "obliquely reflect sinister and
paranoid/whimsical social-political realties". The video is projected from a
brick structure, which alludes to chimney's in Pynchon's novel -- structures
most likely to survive an atomic blast.
