<br></div>In Apocalypse Now it isn't used like that at all, it comes out of the loudspeakers of the helicopters, it's deemed as the right music for this occasion by a character of the movie, Robert Duvall's Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, the man who loves the smell of Napalm in the morning. So, yes, a much better use of Wagner than in Birth of the Nation, if you ask me. (Coppola, of course, knew about Griffith's use of the Ride.)<br>

It's more than twenty years ago that I saw "Birth of a Nation", but my memory seems to work:<br>
