Thank you for those thoughts, KF -- you were actually on my mind soon
after I heard the news, as you are the only person I "know" who knew
DW the man and DFW the writer.

Since you mentioned it, I have to ask: was he fond of The Wire?  The
Wire, to me, comes very close to the ideal he wrote about in his
Dostoevsky essay about the modern novel, even if it was more of a
telenovel.
