Wer weiß, ob 242 in 1998 auch in Bayern auftritt? Das letzte Konzert in München ist lange her und jedesmal nach Bonn, Chemnitz (keine Karten mehr gekriegt, nach 600km Hinfahrt...arrrrrrghhhhhh), Hildesheim und Stockholm (war das schönste Konzert meines Lebens - DAF-Revival inklusive!!!) zu jetten ist ja schließlich auch ganz schön anstrengend. After seeing Front 242 live during their USA 1998 RE:BOOT Tour, I felt really sorry for the band. They once were the purveyors of the EBM/Industrial Dance movement, but now, I don't know what to think. I must honestly say that I think that they have become has beens. To watch them on this tour made me cringe. Richard 23 and Jean-Luc DeMeyer looked like a pair of old white guys trying to act like some type of nigger rap act. Richard 23 with orange hair and an Adidas style warm up suit? Jean
-Luc wearing a burgundy and black long sleeve shirt like something right out of Star Trek's "The Next Generation" and dancing like he had a stroke. What the fuck happened? I still love Front 242 and always will, but seeing them now and remembering how they once were in their prime leaves me quite saddened. It is too bad that they have adopted the Rave/white nigger style in order to appeal to today's youth who really don't know shit about Front 242. It really sends a distorted image to the
"new" fans that they will attract with this new album and tour when they decide to buy the older Front 242 material and are disappointed that it doesn't have the rave sound of the RE:BOOT 98 album. I can just see a kid going to buy the Geography disc and thinking "What the fuck is this shit?" like it was from a different planet. Too bad. That album was (and is) one of the most original EBM albums ever made. It is amazing to think that it was conceptualized in 1981. Daniel B. and Patrick
Codenys really struck gold when they decided to put their musical and artistic talents to work with that album. What was so unique about Front 242 then compared to now, was that the member's were using strong graphic images combined with a powerful electronic audio assault. The use of political imagery, militaristic logos, and imaginative audio samples left the viewer/listener in a state of disbelief. To see a Front 242 show live was something you did not forget quickly. With the most recent
tour however, it is something that I hopefully will soon forget. Gone are the days of the Front 242 I once new and enjoyed, only to be replaced by a lesser quality (albeit over the hill) version. I guess that I will have to make due with listening to my older and more creatively done Front 242 albums from now on. I was visting Frankfurt, I stoped at a local Sub record shop, I asked the store clerk for the electronic music section and he guided me to it. He then asked me if I have ever heard of a group called Front 242 from Belgium, I told him Knaw. He said It's pretty good you will like it. Whatever happened to that FRONT 242 INDUSTRIAL BAND I used to know. I think I have every album they made all the way to 1992. I still have concert shirt and a poster of TYRANNY FOR YOU. I will give them to my son ALEC, he's 4 months 18 days old. Well enough of this bitching and complaining about the group. I just hope they get their act together and produce better INDUSTRIAL MUSIC ALBUMS. WE WHO ARE OPPRESS, LOVE THOSE WHO FIGHT AGAINTS OPPRESSION AND THE OPPRESSORS. ALEX FROM SONORA, MEXICO.
TYRANNY FOR YOU, after this album they became more aggresive in their sampled sounds. Their music started to suck the big one, just like the group MINISTRY did! I quit buying their albums. I had a chance to see FRONT 242 LIVE while living in TEMPE, AZ. in 1991, it was a badass concert. I specially liked the stage setting with two gigantic Industrial Factory blowing fans behind the group, Neon lights litted up the stage while the band caused everyone to move to their industrial beats.
