Not only that, but the Pulitzer committee wanted to give GR the Pulitzer
for fiction that year, but the Pulitzer trust refused to award the
prize to such an "obscene" book (they were upset about, among other things,
the coprophagia scene). So no Pulizter for fiction was awarded that year.
