Hmmmm...here's a thought: put _V._, _GR_, _Lot 49_ et al. on tape for 
motorists!  Since it's unlikely Pynchon would do the honors himself, we'll have 
to get some vapid but sonorous TV star to read 'em.  How about William Shatner 
reading the motel scene in _Lot 49_?  Better still, we could get Charlton 
Heston to read _Vineland_.  Oooooh...how about Mr. Credibility-voice himself, 
James Earl Jones, for _GR_?  

My mind seethes with possibilities...

This is the kind of first-rate idea trade empires have been built on.  I'm 
gonna call my lawyer and agent right now and try to ink Kevin Costner for a 
reading of _V._.  Your morning commute will never be the same.
