Obviously this kid needs to get himself down to his local mall and
pick up a copy of the "Cliff Notes" guide to "Vineland."

I saw one of these, albeit briefly, in the open attache case of a
yuppie character in the movie "Miracle Mile." That is, the Cliff Notes
guide to "Gravity's Rainbow." (Amazing what a prop man can do for such
a brief glimpse!)

Speaking of "Vineland," my reaction to it has changed a bit since
learning that many of the locales were apparently based not on the
Eureka/Humboldt County area (though that is the ostensible setting),
but rather on my own neck of the woods. Specifically, the cafe that
gave us the line "Checks in the mayo" (or was is "Czechs in the
Mayo"?) is about a quarter mile from me! (I'm convinced of this.)
