slow learner

I am new to the list; I have read the major works (except _Vineland_).
I just finished _Slow Learner_, and would like to throw out the following
question as a topic of discussion:  What is the relationships between the
short stories and the novels?  The obvious ones being Pig Bodine, the Porpetine
story and the parallel? episode in _V_, the Slothrops.
Kinda related issue:  I just noticed this morning in _V_ an allusion to a guy
rehearsing how to throw himself through a plate-glass window (as in Vinland).
I enjoy groups of stories and novels that have interconnecting features.
I'll be interested in any comments.
