hey, what do the honourable listmembers think of Pynchon's use of
contemporary pop-culture references in the (IMHO) execrable
_Vineland_?  Seems to me that he has developed a serious case of
tin ear for modern low-level culture (Billy Barf and the
Vomittones a good example).  Is this just my hypersensitive young
self, which once seriously got into punk rock (and, not having
been there, sees Pynchon's earlier use of earlier pop-culture as
tunefully authentic and sensitive) being solipsistically annoyed?
Or do the listmembers have opinions about this sort of thing?
