In morse code, the letter V is represented by three dots and a dash
(...-). The command QSV in radiotelegraphy means "send Vs". Accordingly,
when a radio operator wants to check his or someone else's transmitter or
receiver he may
ask or be asked by another operator to send a repetitive series of Vs.
I guess you could see lady V therefor as a phatic figure, presaging some
revelation once the equipment is checked out. In effect, she says "can you
hear me?" or perhaps someone else is asking this question through her.
Morse code, believe it or not, has its own rhythm. The three dots and a dash
remind me of the four opening notes of the main theme of Beethoven's
fifth, which, I understand, is supposed to be about fate, death, or the
devil--I can't remember which. Either one seems appropriate though
