vineland redux

Anti-Thanatoids All,
A bouquet of thank-yous to all who felt inclined to respond to my
10 thoughts on _Vineland_ (hereafter abbreviated "V+"?). I was
not really aware of its stature as a lesser work in the canon.
Feeling more like Bonnie Surfus, I was just grateful to have
gotten anything at all from The Man, and also just plain enjoyed
the storyline, pop culture touches, etc.
As for my comments comparing TP to Springsteen & Prince, which
seemed to have hit a hot button with some: they were conceived
years ago, when both those "artists" had just (if memory serves)
released albums exactly parallel to V+, after just coming off
their own GR masterpieces. As for their careers since--*sigh*.
In addition, it seems churlish to denigrate pop artists and
their relevance to TP, considering The Man's own avowedly pro-pop
leanings. Isn't that Zappa being quoted in the intro to
_Slow Learner_?
Hasta la bye-bye! (Spanglais phrase cited in this Sunday's NYT)
