1. Thanks to those who replied to me about McLuhan. I managed to borrow a
copy of "The Gutenberg Galaxy," but can't find a copy of the two I want to
look at, here in Poughkeepsie. I'll reply some when I get the reading
done.
2. I could very definitely be wrong here, but I thought "Smells Like Teen
Spirit" was written by Tori Amos (and covered by Nirvana). It's on a live
album or EP of hers, don't know which, b/c I don't like her music. Don't
own any Nirvana albums, either, but HiHo.
3. The phrase "Just because your paranoid doesn't mean I'm not out to get
you" has been around for a long time, it seems. My favorite usage comes
from Sapphire-The Uppity Blues Women's last album, in a song called "Bitch
With a Bad Attitude."
4. I had this dream last night that I walked into a bar and sat down next
to Pynchon. (He kind of looked like Michael Douglas in the Movie "Falling
Down") He bought me a Pabst Blue Ribbon and told me to listen to the music
that was coming from the speakers. I left for a second (to go to the
bathroom?) and when I came back he was behind the bar mixing drinks. He
said "What'll it be" in a movie kind of way and I looked at the tumbler he
was shaking in his hands. It was a Yahtzee cup. He rolled dice from it
onto the bar and I think this is when I woke up. I rarely remember my
dreams at all, but Freudian dream interpretation has always been suspect by
me as a sort of paranoia in trying to find meaning in nonsense. I think it
might be all the frozen pepperoni-bit pizzas I've been eating lately. (?)
6. This may be the longest message I've ever written.
