I have, in the past,  written in wry defense of 
koopman (although I retract any apparent allusion 
that koopman is somehow equivalent to Joyce): 
when I feel like decoding his posts I do. When I 
don't, I don't. 

As for "masturbating in public" - well, isn't 
that what a discussion group _does_? If we wanted 
to keep our thoughts to ourselves that would be 
much simpler than posting to the list, wouldn't 
it? I lurk most of the time: I'm not as widely 
Pynchon-read as some (book jackets?) and feel I 
have more to learn than to contribute. 

And I don't know if koopman cross-posts to the 
Joyce list but we see him periodically over on 
SEMIOS-L...
