The first American ed. of V. has this flat plane with a huge letter V; I 
recall it being light blue and tan.  The English 1st of V. is white with 
a big purple V. on the front.

The first American & English eds. of GR are pretty identical to the cover 
on the first paperback edition (orange & black & blue).

CL49 American 1st is a picture of a street or sidewalk surface with the 
postal horn drawn on.  I haven't seen the English 1st.

The above is from memory.  These books, in fine condition, begin at 
around $250 up to $1000.  V. is the most expensive, it being TP's first book.
