Aaron Yeater writes about the possibility of coincidence in Pynchon's
referencing BBC material that happened to be on the BBC at a time reasonably
consistent with a chronology for the action.  Weisenburger's *Companion* does
use such "coincidences" as definite markers, and as such they may stretch our
willingness to see TRP as bound to such a fixed timetable.  A way around the
dilemma is to consider that TRP is indeed borrowing from sources, and that
those sources sometimes coincide with the general temporal pattern of the
story, but since there are other references that have no connection, we could
easily see TRP picking details he likes the sound of or that will resonate in
different ways (all the anachronistic film references, for instance).
