2 cents re SF and TRP:

I would guess that it has to do with the wildly hallucinogenic flights of 
fantasty in TRP's novels.

Also, I believe I read an interviewer where Gibson, to paraphrase, set 
his clock to TRP.

And, yes, a touch of acid may add a certain "resonance" to TRP's work.
