have noted a few comments about the unabomber and his brutal luddite-ism
here and am sure that in the wake of the NYT and WP's *bold* decision to
publish bits of the manifesto this list will reel with response.
whaddya think? here's the counterculture and anti-technology brought to a
new extreme (though one could easily argue that the unabombers *few* victims
are nothing compared to the *victims* of the system wrought by technology).
but i take exception to the idea that you have to kill people to get your
message across, whether you are the system or the antisystem. don't join
*them* even if you can't beat *them.* i guess i think technology is not
such a bad thing in general, and humans are pretty wise about *resisting*
its sway in most cases, and at least now we are paying more attention to the
environment and its various creaks and groans, even if we aren't *doing*
anything about it yet.
and the unabomber (or FC) seems to cast his attack pretty wide, cursing both
the "leftists" and the feminists and the affirmative action people and the
conservatives and animal lovers and whatnot.
anyway...after reading the excerpts (quickly -- will give them more
attention tonight) I'm more confused than enlightened, and certainly not
ready to defenestrate my PC and join a world revolution.
soberly, erik
