Patrick Lynch requests:
"For a semina I'm leading on "The Crying of Lot 49": Can anyone suggest
accompanying films, film clips, visual art or other media that also captures
the feel/genre of the novel? I have some odeas, but would love some expert
input. Thanks in advance for your wisdom--Patrick"

I don't know about wisdom, but above all see if you can find the Porky Pig
cartoon--it's in b&w and hard to find, but the title is THE BLOWOUT, directed
by Tex Avery, for Warner Bros.

You might also want to look at DER MUDE TOD (aka DESTINY), directed by Fritz
Lang. It figures importantly in a few places in GR and I suspect it of
influencing the idea of the Tristero.

BTW, as you may know, the Thurn and Taxis family is still around, the most
baronness being one of the Beautiful People, so there are links there too.

The encounter on the lagoon is reminscent of James Bond stuff, especially the
speed boats in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

There are lots of other tangential things I could suggest, but I doubt their
relevance to your purpose.

Good luck.
