an anachronism in Gravity's Rainbow????

Actually there are a number of acronisms among Pynchon's "facts".  A 
couple in V. which come mind are (1) Luis Aparacio (p.41), who is Kuke's 
baseball hero in early 1956, was the _rookie_ of the year in 1956 which 
baseball season didn't begin until April 1956; (2) the Ark Royal (p.429) 
was a British aircraft carrier sunk in November 1941, yet is mentioned as 
being around much later.

I suppose such picking of nits is part of the fun.
