AIR MALTA

DIRECT FLIGHTS TO NEW YORK AND RETURN FROM NEXT NOVEMBER

Air Malta and Balkan Airlines have concluded an agreement under
which with effect from November '95, the latter will commence a
a once weekly non stop scheduled flight between Malta and New York.
The service will also operate during summer 1996. The flights
will be operated with a widebody Boeing 767-200ER. Departures will
be every Friday at 1200 hours with arrival at J.F. Kennedy
airport scheduled for 1635 (New York time). The return flight
will depart from J.F. Kennedy every Monday at 1645 hours arriving
in Malta at 0805 hours (Malta time) the following morning
(Tuesday).

This was announced today by Mr J.N.Tabone Chairman and Chief
Executive of Air Malta together with Mr Boris Momchilov Vice
President of Balkan Airlines after the agreement was signed at
Air Malta's Head Office in Luqa.

Mr Tabone stressed Air Malta's policy of increasing frequencies
and destinations, thus offering local travellers the opportunity
to fly direct to 46 different cities.

Mr Tabone also referred to the efforts undertaken by Air Malta to
diversify the incoming tourist industry. He said that financial
1993/1994 was a landmark year for Air Malta. A number of
potential destinations were investigated, twelve of which were
actually added to the existing schedule. Such a substantial route
expansion demanded heavy investments in Equipment and Human
Resources, which paid acceptable dividends. During the first year
of operation the twelve new routes generated over 90,000 both way
passengers.

During the financial 1994/95 six more routes were added, bringing
the total destinations operated by Air Malta to forty. During the
financial year these eighteen new routes generated over 185,600
both way passengers. In addition this Summer Air Malta has
extended its network by six more routes. All new routes
continuing to show positive results.

Moreover, Air Malta's endeavour to explore new markets has helped
the Maltese Tourist Industry in no small way at a time when
traditional markets are slowing down.

Today's agreement with Balkan Airlines is yet another way of
fulfilling the National Airline Commitment to the Maltese Nation.
For the first tune ever direct services are being offered
between Malta and the US. This will not only help to strengthen
tourism between the two countries by providing a direct air-link
between Malta and the US, but will also provide opportunities to
the 200,000 strong Maltese community living in the US.

Air Malta plans to open an office at the Rockerfeller Centre in
New York on 1st October 1995.

Coupled with the commencement of this operation Air Malta plans
to provide a Flyaway Tour package to New York for the local
travel public.

Air Malta's commitment to fulfil its Group Mission Statement to be
'The leader in the growth of the Economy of Malta, supporting the
Tourism and Communications sectors' Is clear for all to see.

Also present for the signing of the agreement were Mr A. J. Paris
Director, Mr Leslie Muscat Group Head Business Planning and
Development, Joe Cappello Group Head Sales, Mr Borislav Pavlov
Regional Manager and Mr Nicolai Kolev Manager for Malta.
