Yet another angle:

When I worked at MacDonnell Douglas, it was common knowledge around the 
company that there was a group within the company working on ESP, mostly
for the purposes of giving a fighter pilot the ability to read his
opponent's mind.  This had the earmarks of a corporate legend, since
I never met anyone who either worked on the project or knew someone
else who worked on it, but it did not seem so far fetched, given projects
I knew about.

The project was supposed to have been started in the early sixties, and
continued through '85.  I recall seeing a short, four paragraph obituary
for it in the business section of the local paper, stating that it was
being discontinued because the DOD had concluded that they had been unable
to find any real, exploitable, effect....

It would not surprise me if similar work was being discussed at Boeing during
the same period, while TRP was there.
