vineland sighting

It looks like someone who works on NBC's LAW AND ORDER must be a Pynchoniac,
as I can verify a GRAVITY'S RAINBOW sighting in the same show, different
episode.  There is an episode in which a kid has been threatened with
kidnapping (it turns out that a family friend -- a-and a judge -- did it,
oops, sorry) and a kind of "pre-ransom" money is being dropped off in Central
Park.  The cops have it staked out, of course.  The head cop (an
African-American woman) sits on a rock in the park, waiting.  While she
waits, she is pretending to read GR, the copper-colored (Bantam?) paperback
with the rocket streak of rainbow up the side of the front cover.

It always cracked me up that they had picked a book notorious for NOT being
read for this kind of "pretend reading."
