cyberpunk & the GR movie

As the only card-carrying cyberpunk on the list (involvement in
the movement since its inception, inclusion in the seminal
MIRRORSHADES anthology, etc., etc ad nauseum), let me affirm that
all of us have said in printe time and again that we owe half
our genes to Pynchon (other half to Burroughs and third half
to Chandler). As I mentioned in my earlier post "Ten thoughts
about _Vineland_", the Gibson influence is incontestible. And
as I also mentioned, Rudy Rucker and I like to insert Imipolex-G
as an off-the-shelf biomimetic plastic into our fictions.
On another topic: I've been impressed by everyone's choices for
actors and directors for the GR movie. But I find this
scenario more frighteningly plausible: Pynchon's next book
hits big (for intrinsic or extrinsic reasons) and he becomes
a hot property. Some schmuck studio buys the rights to all
his books (given the man's slow output, he opts to take the cash
and let the credit go). The resulting film resembles the
Stigwood production of _Sgt. Pepper_ And features such stars as
Roseanne, Madonna, Bruce Willis, etc, etc.
Bets, anyone?
