Roky was arrested in 1968 for possession of ONE joint.  for this, he 
plead insanity.  The line is that this gesture was inspired by his trust 
that this would keep him from doing time in a "regular" prison facility.  
He came out, it seems, worse off for this decision.  Nonetheless, Roky's 
insanity was most likely "staged."
