Try Cyril Tourneur's Revenger's Tragedy. I can't remember any specific
resonances, but I seem to recall that the general influence was unmistakable.
As for Wharfinger, anybody got any ideas what he might have to do with the
words wharfinger (a guy who runs a wharf) or, more outlandishly, warfarin (a
popular rat poison). Or am I just showing off to no purpose?
As for Shakespeare, I agree, the overall incidence of allusion is, at first
blush, pretty slight, but there is an early Pynchon story called "Mortality
and Mercy in Vienna,'' a quote from Measure for Measure.
