Synopsis of GR--corrections

A-Alex (if I've got that right) Jonnston's summary of GR was great, except
for a couple of mistakes which it might be picky to bring up but ought to
be included for the sake of literary accuracy (getting the Text right being
an essential component of the Routinization of Charisma--see Max Weber's
collected works or just say "Outase). The Octopus is named Grigori but I
don't know if that's significant, except that it probably has something to
do with Pavlov's experiments with dogs and has been conditioned by behavioral
scientist and all-around Bad Guy Pointsman, who wants to get his mitts on
Slothrop and (de-? re-?)condition those rocket-induced erections. Gottfried
and Katje weren't held by Enzian qua Enzian, but by his then-commander and
lover, Cpt. Blicero (nom de guerre of one Weissmann, who like Mondaugen first
appeared in V., which you should also read if you're interested in Pynchon).
Greta is sort of one-part Dietrich, but calls herself the "anti-Dietrich"
which seems to be an anachronism because Dietrich wasn't really a superstar
until after the silent film era when Greta had had her heyday. So that's
just a couple of thoughts that I hope clarify points that might otherwise
confuse in a lucid synopsis (or you could buy the Cliff's Notes version
spotted in the movie MIRACLE MILE, starring Anthony Edwards who's now on the
NBC smash hit series ER--which does not stand for Elizabeth Regina), except
for of course all the stuff that was left out of the summary like the witch,
the Russian with steel teeth who's Enzian's brother u.s.w., because everything
else in the book is really the world.
