Marija Gimbutas, archaeologist at UCLA (I think that's where she is)
notices in her work that many of the goddess figurines found all about
Europe demonstrate ritual worship of an earlier veneration of Her in Her
manifestations as both snake goddess and bird goddess (rather, these two
are prominent--there are others.) Most often, it is the owl that
represents the ornothological orientation of the Goddess.
And that golden mechanical owl from Clash of the Titans (weren't there
some warring skeletons also?) is not merely a visual aside. It is part
of the mythology that inspired the "film." The mechanized nature of the
bird? That may be embellished.
