On reading the Pynchon FAQ on the web site, I was surprised to see
mention of Illuminatus! as recommended reading for Pynchon fans.
Illuminatus was an interesting read for me, because I had a thousand
pages in which to practice skimming for content, because despite the
outlandish goings-on in the book, the writing is fairly typical of the
pulp science-fiction genre, even if it does take a couple pointers from
and make many references to the likes of WSB and JG Ballard. It was fun
to read, but not terribly memorable.
