>How 'bout Emmett Grogan's (whoever he is) RINGALEVIO?
>
Grogan was one of the original Diggers (agit-prop hippies) in the Haight, c.
'65-66. I understand he's no longer among the living (but that could be a
fine Digger rumour).
About readings, no one's mentioned Don Delillo, particularly _White Noise_
(1985) and _Mao II_ ('90), the latter about a reclusive author who hasn't
been seen in years and has been at work on a *major* novel for twenty years.
I also recommend RHW Dillard: _Book of changes_ and _First man on the sun_
are multi-layered works with numerous leads off the page (more is less is
more) and a guiding humour and intelligence. (He was my grad advisor at
Hollins, but I'd gone there because of his work, and remain *ahem* impartial.)
