have it on very good source that DeLillo was the only brain behind AMAZONS
by Cleo Birdwell -- this a fine and funny (though dated) little novel about
life as the first female NHL player. not quite sure why DD turned his hand
to this one, but the results are *ahem* interesting.

as for Libra, believe the Oliver Stone story is a bit more paranoid than it
seems -- apparently John Malkovich had the rights to Libra and was producing
it, then Stone (deep in JFK) found out and used his "clout" to crush the
competing project. pity, really.

as for book/writer suggestions, has anyone mentioned B.Traven here?
Interesting in comparison with Pynchon because of the Germany/Mexico
connections as well as the whole "mysterious writer" bit. The voyage of the
doomed Yorikke in THE DEATH SHIP makes for great reading, and there's always
THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE...lots of good anecdotes about how Traven
used to hang around at the filming site getting in the way --- apparently
nobody knew who he was!

cheers, erik
