Bonnie,

Everyone has mentioned most of DeLillo's works, but don't forget an early
novel called AMERICANA.  As I recall ( I read it many years ago) it was
pretty good, about a filmmaker's journey around the USA.  This was the book
that got me interested in DeLillo.

I agree that WHITE NOISE is his best book. I liked reading THE NAMES best and
also liked MAO II.

DeLillo is a terrific writer and deals with some of the same themes as
Pynchon.  They are very different though, no one I can think of combines
Pynchon's dealing with the big themes of our time with his hilarious wacked
out sense of humor.

No one has mentioned Robert Stone on their summer reading lists.  I like all
his novels though I'm not making a claim for any real similarity with
Pynchon.  However, he was one of the characters in ELECTRIC KOOLAID ACID
TEST, and hung around with the Kesey crowd in his youth, and he was in the
Navy.
