Bonnie discusses:
"That's minor. An observation last night. More are these. Tell me if
you've run this down or not, ok? I have not read anything on the
similarity to the war film in _Slaughterhouse Five_, the one that runs
backwards and makes the bombs go UP, back into the plane, people heal,
etc. There is a parallel on 203-04. (by the way, at the bottom of
203--Viking--ther is a first person intrusion. I am baffled.) Anyhow,
the film goes on, dealing with a puritan ancestor (not unlikely for TRP)
and the whole trip over, colonizing motivations, etc--in details of the
trip (vomitting, etc.)"
The "first person" reference I assume is "As I walk along the Bwa-deboolong
with an independent air."
This is the opening line of a popular music-hall song, "The Man Who Broke the
Bank at Monte Carlo" which goes:
As I walk along the Bois de Boulounge
With an independent air,
You can hear the girls declare,
"There goes a millionaire!"
You can hear them sigh and wish to die,
You can see them wink the other eye,
At the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo."
The persona of the song is a Parisian who's had a streak of luck at the tables.
The late Burl Ives, among many others, recorded it.
For more on the reverse film, see Weisenberg's discussion of proteron hysteron
in the COMPANION TO GR.

(Oh, yeah, as you probably already know, TRP's ancestors (some of them anyway)
did come over with the first batch of Puritans)
