Wrong. There is nothing fictional about News International, Sky TV,
CNN, the BBC, IBM, Raytheon, GEC/Marconi, Boeing etc. Nor are Margaret
Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and John Major fantasies or
figments of my imagination. And people really are logging vast swathes
of rainforest, polluting rivers with mercury, dumping nuclear waste -
real people, who make decisions to do all this.
I never claimed that liberals who get to make a fuss about this were
victims. On the contrary I said that we obtain the privilege of
expressing our objections at other people's expense (we are
provileged). Yet we achieve little *merely by speaking* - how could we
when there are so many `respectable' sources out there affirming the
party line. I believe that Pynchon for all his prevarication and
philosophical dalliance in no way intends to deny that `bad shit' (by
which is intended no anti-realist, excluded middle crapola) often
happens by design.
