The hang over fog has begun to lift a little. Here is the quote I thought I
remembered. It was smell not smoke:
"Soon toasters and toaster ovens, wood fires, RV kitchen microwaves,
gong-size skillets over propane flames, all working on bacon, links,
eggs, flapjacks waffles, hash browns, French toast, and hush puupies, were
sending out branching invisible fractals of smell, reaching all over the
place, fat smoke, charring spices, toasted bread, just made coffee." p.323,
Vineland, Little, Brown, 1990.
I'm hungry. Where's the Bloody Mary mix?
O yeah, I realize that GR is your main concern, but what you said about
octagonal shapes struck a memory chord as well, also from Vineland, again
at the annual Traverse and Becker picnic, where the "Octomaniacs" p.324 and
again p.367, are locked in their traditional non-stop crazy eights
game...probably irrelevant to your project, but my brain is a little
chaotic at this juncture.
