Readers of Pynchon who want to try Joseph McElroy should start
with one of his early masterpieces -- HIND'S KIDNAP, ANCIENT HISTORY, or
LOOKOUT CARTRIDGE.
Tom LeClair interviewed McElroy for a book called ANYTHING CAN
HAPPEN, and Joseph Tabbi devotes two chapters to him in THE POSTMODERN
SUBLIME. I spoke to McElroy on the phone a year or so ago, and he
mentioned that Knopf would issue a collection of his short fiction in
1996.
