Bonnie,
I don't know you, but I do know Raul. (We all have our cross to bear.) I
thought the Pynchon stuff was fascinatin'. I myself came to grad school
expecting to write about technology's effects on fiction, but found out I
like doing film more. It didn't help any that I dug Lot 49, but bogged
down in V and Gravity's Rainbow.
But, to my question. Do you have any skinny on why the writer of the film
"The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension" chose to
allude to Yoyodyne? Both the director (W. D. Richter) and the writer
(Earl Mac Rauch) tend to be...off in their other work, and the film could
be called Pynchonian in tone. But if you have background knowledge, I'd love
to hear it.
Later.
Andrew
