I'm with you all the way, except I think that pynchon can be 
political, in that there is also the possibility that the 
psychological is its own fiction, its own contrivance.  That we are 
all just pawns in the broader political conspiracy.  and interestingly, 
i think Vineland is an almost explicitly political novel, with the 
psychology receding into the setting...

But thanks for successfully sowing the middle ground...
