"Yah, Pynchon's been to Hollywood. But only to get a
few names and then scoot. Perhaps Sasha's cousin,
Claire, is a Traverse. That Claire Trevor shoy did
star in lots of fns. And maybe that Hub Gates is
Herbert J Yates, both are credited with some great
productions. Let's end the post here, a cute couple.
Let them live happily ever after.
With little ones aplenty."
Some nice Kute Korrespondences here! I like the dog-Desmond connection
especially, via SUNSET BLVD. Maybe, though (to turn us back briefly to
the World of Science), Hub Gates somehow relates to Prof. Hubbell, for
whom the eponymous and once-troubled space telescope was named.
In similar matters, I am haunted by the name of Blodgett Waxwing in GR, with
the first name suggesting "Esther Blodgett," the original name of
the character played by Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Steisand in
all 3 versions of A STAR IS BORN, while the surname evokes the first line
of John Shade's long poem in Nabokov's PALE FIRE: "I was the shadow of the
waxwing slain . . ." (On the otherhand, maybe it's because waxwings--
beautiful birds, BTW--have zoot-suit yellow plummage and cardinal-like
black masks around their eyes--shady customers, perhaps.)
