Well, seems to me the equivalent of telling a small child "don't touch
the hot stove."  His dedication to privacy begs the questions "What's he
hiding?  What doesn't he want us to know?"  Consider the (at least American)
fascination with uncovering secrets, conspiracies, etc.

Or maybe it's all intended to goad us into wild speculation, to make
him larger in myth than he could be in life.  Ha ha.
