V in the sky

I'm trying to write a modest little short story involving several themes: The Challenger disaster, the
Hindenburg disaster, and a ruptured appendix that happened to me shortly after the Challenger explosion in
1986. While trying to weave together these disparate materials, I remembered that image of two diverging
smoke trails in the sky forming a big white 'V'. Has anyone ever exploited this image allusively or is it all just
too tasteless to consider? Or was it really more of a 'Y'?
