It's one of the great realist novels and a very good--though 
brutal--portrait of Jewish immigrant society. Roth didn't publish again 
for almost fifty years. Last year, at the age of 80-something, he 
published a memoirish novel whose title has the phrase "From a 
[Something] Stream in it. I haven't read it. There was a big piece on him 
in Vanity Fair a year or two ago. He now lives in the Southwest. >
