a) No, normally J. Clute reviews are so dense and oblique that, unless you 
really work at them, not only can't you tell if he likes a book, you 
can't even tell what book is being reviewed. Which isn't a criticism - 
just a warning. You need a dictionary, and a clear head. 

b) His only published novel (at least I think it's his only published 
novel), THE DISINHERITING PARTY, is pretty Pynchonesque as I recall, 
although I read it well over 10 years ago so I've forgotten the actual 
story. 

c) No, I've met Clute. He lives in London. Nice try, but....

PS. Re: long delays between novels. There was a review in the papers yesterday
of a book by Dorothy West - it was her 2nd novel, THE WEDDING, which has just 
appeared 47 years after her first. Makes Pynchon and Gaddis seem quite prolific.
