Titans in these mountains

In answer to Rich White's query, the mountain-shadow scene occurs in GR as
Slothrop and Geli Tripping stand on top of the Brocken at Dawn, creating
the effect known as the "Brockengespenst" (or simply "the Specter" to Slothrop)
followed by the remark, "Not ordinary shadows, either--*three-dimensional*
ones, cast out on the German dawn, yes and Titans *had* to live in these
mountains, or under them. . . . "

(GR, 330)

But there's also the Titans/Pan passage beginning on GR 720.

(Viking ed.)

Hope this helps.
