This is just another instance of the fragmentation of modern society and culture. 
Treknoids are amazed when they ask whether I've seen the latest version of "DS9" 
and I ask, "What's that"; football fans grin when they ask whom I favor in the 
upcoming Bowl game and I ask, "Who's playing?"

Instead of the "two cultures" that C.P. Snow wrote about, we now have the n 
cultures. It'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
