Reading in bed

During a bout of insomnia some years ago I got through Proust's
masterwork (all 3000+ pages, twice actually) in short bursts between the
hours of midnight and dawn. It was the perfect book for the purpose to which
I put it. After an average of ten or fifteen pages I was always
ready for a few hours of precious sleep. And I loved the book. Undeniably boring
and undeniably magnificent at one and the same time.
Anyone else have a tale to relate of being helped through a long
hard book rather fortuitously?
Paul
