I'm new too so I'll offer my opinion first. <g>

I was really disappointed in _Vineland_, so much so that I still haven't been able  
to finish it.  I think he was either: a) doing nothing more than meeting a  
contractual agreement, or b) has decided he has nothing more to say.

It looks like he wrote it in a couple of months, tops, even though there are a few  
passages that are interesting.
