Sinister Baseball

I've thoroughly enjoyed the many extrapolations of the quondam America's
Pasttime, but I think the writer got it best who posted:
"The spider at the heart of the baseball web is not the pitcher, as one
writer suggested but the knot of people at home plate: batter, catcher
and ump. All the white lines extend from there.

When a batter hits a home run, it describes another white line that makes
a parabola, in GR the most sinister image, that has its terminus in the
audience."

Think about it. Slothrop wants to get Home. He steals metaphorical bases
(and are they missile bases too?), but is always in danger of being tagged Out--
Sinister indeed!
