Well I hate to rain on anyone's party, but I have to admit that I have 
read the whole of GR aloud with my partner... so it is possible and a hell
of a lot of fun.  What you need is a long term view of the project
another enthusiastic participant and plenty of good red wine.

As far as the "rap" dialect goes I think you will find there is a whole
range of languge styles, a heterogeneity of discourses, dare I say it,
to be discovered in the novel.  P S, make sure your in good singing voice
when you try this also.
