Wojciech Has directed a great 1965 movie "The Saragossa Manuscript"
which captures some of the labyrinthine complexity of the book. Stars
Zbigniew Cybulski (best known for his role in Wajda's "Ashes and
Diamonds"), filmed in magnificent black-and-white cinemascope, with
music/sound by Christof Penderecki. Basically, a series of nested
stories with occasional unexpected links, tho this is like saying
GR is basically a story about rocket engineering.
This film was, for many yrs, unavailable for commercial release until
recently...I believe you can now buy/rent the video.
Who can say if TRP saw this...but it is clearly Pynchonesque.
I've been lurking at pynchon-l for several mo; am delighted/outraged/
humbled by some of your postings. One of the gems of the net...
