Kubrick/Pynchon

I don't agree that Kubrick would be the best choice for director of
the (hypothetical) movie version of GR. Granted, there is a shared
thematic concern with systems, and Kubrick has an affinity for GR's
large scale structural rhythms and its satiric comedy. But Kubrick's
visual field -- stipped down, harshly lit, static -- couldn't be more
different than Pynchon's softer focused, densely detailed, more fluid
field.
SK and TRP's more small-scaled, scenic rhythms are also radically
different, Kubrick's are pointed, TRP's more contemplative, digressive,
less emphatic -- more akin to the scenic rhythms of Herzog, Tarkovsky,
or even Lynch.
